Heartland User Group WebSIG

Heartland User Group WebSIG meeting of July 25, 2006. Presentation on optimizing images for the web

I was invited to deliver a presentation to the Heartland User Group’s WebSIG on July 25. We talked about techniques and strategies to optimize images for use in web sites. A great group of folks attended, with excellent feedback and additional resources suggested by the audience. Here are the links to web-based resources I used in the presentation.
A special thanks and a tip o’ the hat to Brad Pool (I apologize in advance for mis-spelling names or organizations) at the Kansas School for the Blind for his insights into building accessible web sites for people with low vision or blindness.

The Bandwidth Report at Web Site Optimization for a monthly review of internet connection statistics.
Lynda Weinman’s site for a discussion of web-safe colors.
PNG information, test suites, and pointers to other PNG resources
The GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program), an open source image editing program. Windows and Mac binaries and executables are available.

Thanks to Dan Davis, president of the WebSIG, for the invitation and Kurt Loudon, for his assistance with setup.
